Waterfall Trip – Maine

I found an ultimate waterfalls of Maine post on Pinterest so we set out to see how many we could find on our second day of vacation. This day took us to the mountains located in the northwest corner of the state.

Ed and I are always amazed that when you look upstream from a waterfall or a lot of times not to far downstream you find a very shallow stream where the water is moving very slowly.

Along the way we stumbled on a breathtaking surprise. I don’t want to spoil the surprise this early in the post, so let’s get going!!

Coos Canyon

Here comes our breathtaking surprise. On route to the next falls, Google maps took us off roading. I tell Ed your dually can handle this one lane gravel road. By now we are in the mountains with no cell service but just the stored map directions. We come to a fork in the road but the map does not show a fork so we are lost. We decided to turn around and go back the way we came and take the longer route but on paved roads. By doing this we ended up on a scenic route of Maine that follows Rt 17. As we are taking the road we learn that it goes up the mountain and goes around the side of the mountain to give you this incredible overview area. Pictures do not do this place justice. Ok to much talking, enjoy!!

So by now we are starving and need some food. We stopped at this great bbq place. I had to include pictures because it was so cute. I can’t forget the momma duck and ducklings that we crossing the road in front of the restaurant.

The bbq, fries and coleslaw were incredible. Now that we have recharged, time for some more falls!!!

See what I mean, the falls all seem to end with slow running stream just like this one.

I’m going to end this post with a quote from Theodore Roosevelt that was displayed on a plague at the scenic road overview.
