Just 4 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 317. Linville Caverns is deep beneath Humpback Mountain. In 1822, the mysterious appearance of fish swimming in and out of the mountain led fishermen to explore the passageways within. Early explorers were captivated by the millions of years of geological activity that surrounded them. Today, Linville Caverns remains one of the few active limestone caverns with new rock constantly growing and forming.
