Tonto National Forest – Apache Trail – Arizona

The Apache Trail winds you through the Superstition Mountains located near Mesa, Arizona. On this adventure we started out at the Superstition Mountain Museum that houses a lot of memorabilia from the Apacheland Motion Picture Studio. This studio was responsible for a lot of western movies and shows filmed in the area over the years. Next we stopped at the Goldfield Ghost town located at the site of the historic Mammoth Gold Mine to see if we could find some gold laying around. No luck!!! We got back on the road to see the gorgeous views of Canyon Lake. What a breathtaking view!! Next we passed through Tortilla Flat which is a remnant of an old west town that started out as a stagecoach stop in 1904. Finally we followed the road/trail until it became a dirt road to the top of the mountain to get a panoramic view of the mountains.

We picked the perfect time to visit Arizona to see wildflowers. The mountains and roadsides are just covered in blooming wildflowers. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
