White Mountain – Wilmington, New York

White Mountain is the fifth highest peak in New York at 4,867 feet. The drive is five miles from tollbooth to top via the Veteran’s Memorial Highway. There are stops along the way to pull off with views of Adirondack Park, Lake Placid, Lake Champlain and on really clear days Montreal.

There is a castle and summit house at the top.
Our two grandkids joined us on the trip to New York. Once we reached the top we walked the 426 foot tunnel to the center of Whiteface Mountain and road the elevator up 27 stories to the Summit House.
Down the elevator and then on our way to check out the castle.
You can climb the trail from the Castle to the Summit House but the elevator was a much easier way to the top.
Time to head back down the mountain and check out Lake Placid.
