Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens – Charleston, South Carolina

Established in 1681 by Englishman Major John Boone. In 1743, his son Captain Thomas Boone, planted live oak trees, arranging them in two evenly spaced rows. This approach to his home became a symbol of Southern heritage. It took more than 200 years for the trees to meet overhead to form the present-day scenic corridor that welcomes visitors to America’s most photographed plantation. The plantation is one of America’s oldest plantations still in operation. It has continually produced agricultural crops for over 320 years. The plantation was also a large producer of bricks that helped build Fort Sumter and other prominent Charleston landmarks. The current house is not original and was built in 1936.
